While a number of new financial vehicles are initially met with resistance, few have experienced the outright prohibition that life settlements have suffered at the hands of insurance carriers and broker-dealers. Specifically, the 2010. Life Settlement Market Study shows that 14 percent of producers are prohibited from engaging in life settlement transactions. In a separate question, 22 percent of agents said they had been prohibited from transacting life settlements by an insurance carrier 18 percent by a broker-dealer, 6 percent by a state law provision, and 5 percent by a wholesaler/marketing organization. Sixty-five percent said they had never been prohibited from transacting life settlements.
